DEFINITION OF TOURISM.
   Tourism is travel for recreationalleisure, or business purposes, usually of a limited duration. 
Tourism is commonly associated with transnational travel, but may also refer to travel 
to another location 
within the same country. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people 
"traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than 
one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes".
   Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. Tourism can be
domestic or international, and international tourism has both incoming 
and outgoing implications on a country's balance of payments. Today, tourism is major source of income for many 
countries, and affects the economy of both the source and host countries, in some
 cases it is of vital importance.
    Tourism is a collection of activities, services and industries that delivers a travel experience, 
including transportation, accommodations, eating and drinking establishments, retail shops, 
entertainment businesses, activity facilities and other hospitality services provided for 
individuals or groups traveling away from home. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) 
claims that tourism is currently the worlds largest industry with annual revenues of 
over $3 trillion dollars. 
Definition of Tourism
Mathieson and Wall (1982) created a good working definition 
of tourismas "the temporary movement of people to destinations outside their normal places of work and residence, 
the activities undertaken during their stay in those destinations, and the 
facilities created to cater to their needs."
According to Macintosh and Goeldner (1986) tourism is "the sum of the phenomena and 
relationships arising from the interaction of tourists, business suppliers, 
host governments and host communities in the process of attracting and hosting 
these tourists and other visitors."
   Based on Oxford Dictionary tourism (ˈtʊərɪzəmis the business activity connected withproviding accommodation, services and entertainment for people who are visiting a place for pleasure

So BASED on all definitions above we can summary that 
Tourism is an activity of a person or group with their own aim for going to another location, domestic or international for a limited time.  That overall related to tourism 
of the needs of each person and the state as well as the interaction between tourists and local people, fellow travelers, Government, Local Government and employers.

THE RELATION BETWEEN TOURISM AND
DEVELOPMENT  
     A tourism has many effects to some people and aspects, such as it will improve facilities  by developing tourism facilities and providing support for the local people, it will helps the local people to learn foreign languages, art, culture and culinary skills to support low-income residents and enhance tourists’ enjoyment of the rural area. Tourism also can make the native people to more open and accept the modernization because the tourist want to know more about the life of traditional villagers and occur for cultural exchange.
   A tourism also can increase low-income residents, because the native people can make a profit from make a craft, open typical culinary resto, open a home-stay and many more. It also helps increase the exchange foreign because many tourist visit the country for their aim to come to that country. And it can make foreign company to put investment in a potential areas. it really helps a lot for developing country like Indonesia.
